Great design projects are about more than pretty pendants, comfy sofas, and color options. Today we are talking about what comes before all of the fun decision making. 

As a design team it is important for us to get to know our client before we can start designing a space. We want to know what your space is used for, your hobbies, your lifestyle, etc. If you are about to start a design project then this post is for you!

Here are a few questions that we always ask our clients before working on their project:

What are your ‘must haves’ for the project:

These are your nonnegotiables. Whether it be a custom kitchen island, black paned windows, white oak floors – the first step in the design process should be outlining what must get done in your project.

What is your style:

Do you like modern furniture and rustic finishes? How about transitional furniture? Eclectic rugs? Knowing your style and providing your designer with inspiration pictures will help us design the space of your dreams. 

What is working in your current space:

Have something in your home that you absolutely love? Let us know! It is important to know what is working in your space that way our design team can work with that point and incorporate it into our design. 

What isn’t working in your current space:

Knowing what needs to be changed is also important in the design process. Maybe you need more storage space in the kitchen, recover your favorite chair, redesign the fireplace, or even replace the floors. Regardless of what needs to be improved, it’s important to identify what’s no longer functional in the space so the professionals can put together a great design plan for you.
