Founder and Principal Designer
Jennifer Kizzee
Houston Interior Design, Led From League City Since 2016
Jennifer founded the studio in 2016 and still leads every project that comes through it. She came to design the long way around, through a career in sales and marketing, and that shows up in how the work runs as much as in how it looks.
How the studio started
A career change she put off for years
Jennifer had a talent for design well before she had a business. For years she kept it on the side, redoing rooms for family and friends while building a career in sales and marketing. She was reluctant to turn the thing she loved into the thing she billed for.
Carrying both is what ended it. She and her husband talked it through, and in 2016 she left marketing and started the studio. For the first stretch they both kept full-time jobs and took clients on nights and weekends. By 2017 there was enough work that design became the whole job.
Jennifer grew up on the coast in Veracruz. That upbringing turns up in the work regularly: warm materials, real color, and rooms built to be lived in rather than looked at. Metropolitan Builder put it as founding the studio the way she came to America, with a vision and a lot of determination.
How she works
A year with one house is normal here
Most JKD projects are large. A kitchen and primary suite taken back to the studs. A whole home reworked room by room. A new build where we are at the table with the builder before the slab is poured. On a construction or renovation project, Jennifer will typically spend at least a year with that one client.
She runs the studio so that clients make decisions instead of phone calls. Drawings, selections, bidding, procurement and install all sit inside the firm. The nine people behind her are designers, a procurement manager and the systems that let a kitchen and a whole-home build run at the same time without either one slipping.
Her material habits are specific and long-standing. Cambria is the quartz she specs unless a client asks otherwise, a preference that started at a Benjamin Moore counter where a display had the quartz sitting against paint swatches. In Spring 2025, one of her renovations ran as the cover story of Cambria Style.
