Before the slab is poured
New Construction Interior Design for Houston Custom Homes
The decisions that matter on a new build get made early, usually before most people think to call a designer. Where the light lands, how wide the openings are, whether the millwork was drawn or ordered from a catalog. Those are architecture and interior decisions at the same time.
We come in at the plan stage and sit at the table with the builder. That is the difference between an interior that was designed and one that was decorated after the fact.
The Emma Lane guest house is the clearest example in the portfolio. New construction on a wooded property in Alvin, built compact, with a vaulted great room, a four-bed bunk room and a full wall of built-in millwork in the bedroom, all drawn before it was framed.

Common questions
What people ask
When should we bring you in on a new build?
As early as you can, ideally at the plan stage and before the slab is poured. Openings, ceiling treatments, millwork and lighting all get cheaper and better when they are drawn rather than retrofitted.
Do you work directly with our builder and architect?
Yes. On new construction that collaboration is most of the job. We work to the architect's plans and coordinate the interior scope with the builder so the trades are not guessing.
Is this different from a renovation?
The nine stages are the same, but the leverage is different. On new construction almost nothing is fixed yet, so the design decisions reach further into the house.
